USC Women's Tennis Falls 4-0 During Pac-12 Championship Final

The No. 6 seed USC women’s tennis team’s incredible run came to an end during the Pac-12 championship final Saturday afternoon as they fell to the No. 1 seed Stanford 4-0. The loss capped off a historic run for the Women of Troy at the Pac-12 tournament, where USC made the final for the very first time.  
 
Grace Piper and Maddy Sieg scored the first point of the day with a 6-3 victory over No. 18 Angelica Blake and Alexis Blokhina on court one. Connie Ma and Valencia Xu responded with a 6-2 victory on court three, before the Cardinal secured the doubles point after a hard-fought effort by No. 42 Snow Han and Naomi Cheong pushed the Cardinal to 7 games.
 
The Trojans fought hard in singles play, but in their fourth game in four days were unable to match the Cardinal. Sara Choy scored the second point for the Cardinal after defeating Nathalie Rodilosso 6-0, 6-4 on court six, and No. 43 Angelica Blake defeated Emma Charney 7-5, 6-0 on court three to bring the Cardinal within one. The clinch point came on court five, where Valencia Xu defeated Piper 6-4, 6-2 on court five.
 
When play paused, No. 11 Sieg led No. 24 Alexandra Yepifanova 2-6, 6-3, 3-0 on court one, and Cheong was tied 6-4, 4-6, 0-0 on court four.
 
The Trojans will now turn their attention to the upcoming NCAA tournament as they await their selection. The Women’s DI NCAA selection show will begin at 3 p.m. on Monday, May 1.
