The USC women’s tennis team turned in a 4-0 victory Sunday, April 16, beating Pac-12 rival Oregon on the road. With the win, the Women of Troy improve to 15-7, 6-3.
After splitting at Nos. 2 and 3, the doubles point came down to court one. Luescher and Moral were even at 5-5 against USC’s 17th-ranked doubles team of Eryn Cayetano and Maddy Sieg. The Trojans withstood the pressure from Luescher and Martinez to earn a 7-5 win and hand USC a 1-0 lead headed to singles. Petchey and Young picked up a 6-3 win at the second spot over Grace Piper and Naomi Cheong. USC’s Emma Charney and Nathalie Rodilosso got by Chan and Olsen at No. 3, 6-4.
Carrying a one-point advantage into singles play, USC never let up, winning three straight singles matches. First Nathalie Rodilosso won on court six with a 6-0, 6-0 decision before No. 7 Maddy Sieg defeated her Oregon opponent 6-2, 6-1 on center court. Freshman Emma Charney delivered the clincher with her 6-2, 6-0 victory over Myah Petchey on court two. Play was suspended on all other courts.
With two more matches remaining during the regular season, including one against crosstown rival UCLA, USC looks to build momentum heading into the postseason.
