USC Men's Tennis Signs Britain's Oscar Weightman

Men’s Tennis | December 08, 2023

LOS ANGELES – USC men’s tennis welcomes the newest addition to the Trojan program, international standout Oscar Weightman (London, Great Britain), head coach Brett Masi announced Friday, December 8.

Weightman joins the program as a spring enrollee who will make the track across the Atlantic Ocean to play for USC in 2024. The Brit currently ranks 1130 in the ATP singles world rankings but peaked at 603 in August 2022. Weightman earned the 69th overall ITF singles ranking in April 2022.

“This is big-time pickup for us,” Masi said. “For him coming this spring, he’ll have an immediate impact; his world experience, just being on the world stage, playing all the ITF and Futures tournaments. He’s won four doubles titles alone this year, so his experience in doubles is going to help us tremendously. Then singles him having a great fall and playing the likes of many college tennis players that are in the top ten this year and being competitive with them is going to bring a lot of value to our team.”

The spring transfer will bring the program an abundance of international experience into the men’s tennis regular season. The highlight of his young career in singles is a win at the ITF M15 Monastir Tournament from March 28 to April 3, 2022. Weightman secured a trophy after going through the qualifying rounds on his way to a perfect 7-0 tournament. Outside of that, the Brit has four double titles in the 2023 calendar.

“I am really excited to join USC and the Trojan family,” Weightman said. “USC has shown itself to be an excellent tennis program and produced many top athletes.”

Weightman will look to make an immediate impact as the Trojans enter into their final Pac-12 season as the reigning Pac-12 champions.

“He’s a super classy kid, cares a lot about the team, and cares a lot about where his tennis is going to take him, and he values USC and the education. We’re just really excited to have him joining our team and making this program better,” Masi said. “This is definitely a huge pickup for the Trojans and getting us back to where we need to be in the national competition and competing for titles.”
