LOS ANGELES – The No. 7 ranked USC men’s tennis advanced to the ITA Kickoff Weekend Championship, after a dramatic 4-2 victory over SMU on Saturday, January 27th at Marks Tennis Stadium.
Sophomore Oscar Weightman had a strong start to his Trojan career with a 6-3 doubles win, as he clinched the doubles point alongside graduate student Stefan Dostanic. Junior Peter Makk and senior Lodewijk Weststrate also helped USC win the doubles point, beating their opponents 6-1.
Karl Lee, ranked #94, was the first to finish up his singles, breezing through the No. 5 singles match winning straight sets, 6-0, 6-2.
#39 Makk bested his opponent 7-6, 6-1 in No. 2 singles.
USC’s Volodymyr Iakubenko clinched the match, as he won from the No. 4 singles spot 7-5, 7-6.
USC men’s tennis is back at it again tomorrow where they will play San Diego at 2 pm, Sunday, January 28th, at the Marks Tennis Stadium.
