Britons Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski reached the US Open men’s doubles semi-finals with clinical wins in New York.
World number one Salisbury and American partner Rajeev Ram beat Monaco’s Hugo Nys and Poland’s Jan Zielinski 6-4 6-7 (3-7) 6-4 on Louis Armstrong Stadium.
Second seeds Skupski and Dutchman Wesley Koolhof then cruised to a 6-3 6-1 win over Brazil’s Marcelo Demoliner and Portugal’s Joao Sousa.
A third Briton, Lloyd Glasspool, was unable to join them after he lost.
Glasspool and Finland’s Harri Heliovaara, who were seeded 11th, lost 7-6 6-2 against Colombia’s Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah.
Salisbury and Ram missed five match points when leading 5-4 in the second set – having previously missed five match points when they were knocked out of the Wimbledon semi-finals in July.
The unseeded Nys and Zielinski held out before taking the tie-break as the top seeds dropped a set for the first time this tournament.
But the British-American pairing were able to avoid the same fate in New York, responding with an early break in the third set and successfully serving out the match.
On missing those match points, Salisbury said: “It was more just the situation, thinking about the fact we had the match points and that we lost the set and just being annoyed at that.
“I didn’t think too much about Wimbledon and it happening last time.
“I wanted to make sure we had a good response and that, whatever happened in the rest of the match, we’d be happy with how we performed in that third set.”
Skupski and Koolhof had an easier quarter-final, winning in one hour three minutes.
They face third seeds Jean-Julien Rojer and Marcelo Arevalo of the Netherlands and El Salvador respectively in the final four.
