UO Begins Final Homestand with Stanford, Cal

EUGENE, Ore. – No. 43 Oregon kicks off its final four-match homestand of the regular season with a pair of ranked Pac-12 foes, as No. 13 Stanford (Friday, 1:30 p.m. PT) and No. 37 California (Sunday, 11 a.m. PT) visit the Student Tennis Center.

The Ducks split a pair of road matches last weekend, defeating Washington State 5-2 before falling at 18^th-ranked Washington 4-0. UO stands at 4-2 in conference play and sits in a three-way tie for third place in the Pac-12 standings with California and USC. Overall, Oregon has won five of its last seven matches, with two ranked victories coming in that span.
 
The doubles tandem of Jo-Yee Chan and Ares Teixido Garcia are off to a team-best 11-1 start this spring, playing primarily at the No. 2 position. The Ducks’ top pair of Sophie Luescher and Uxia Martinez Moral is 7-5 this spring.
 
Oregon has claimed the doubles point in all 11 of its dual-match wins this season.
 
On the singles side, Chan has won eight of her last 10 contests, as the freshman is 10-4 in her initial collegiate campaign. Martinez Moral has won eight of her last 10 singles matches and leads UO with 11 singles wins (11-2), playing primarily at the No. 4 spot in the lineup.
 
Teixido Garcia, who missed the team’s last contest but has played her last 10 matches at the No. 2 position, is 8-5 and has been victorious in six of her last nine contests.
 
Stanford features four players ranked in the latest ITA singles rankings in No. 12 Connie Ma, No. 20 Alexandra Yepifanova, No. 40 Angelica Blake and No. 75 Alexis Blokhina. Three Cardinal’s doubles teams are listed in the rankings, led by Blake/Blokhina at No. 25 and followed by Valencia Zu/Yepifanova (No. 83) and Blake/Ma (No. 84).
 
The Cardinal has won 10 straight matches, including six conference outings, and is 5-0 in true road matches. Stanford leads the all-time series, 27-1, with the Ducks’ lone win in the series coming in the 2021 season.
