UNC Sweeps Doubles Play; Three Tar Heels In Singles Finals


CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Entering the final day of play at the 2023 ITA Carolina Regional Championships, the Tar Heels have seen two doubles teams cement a spot in San Diego while three Tar Heel singles players have a chance to advance to the 2023 Fall Championships.

Yesterday, Reese Brantmeier and Elizabeth Scotty defeated NC State’s Sophie Abrams and Anna Zyryanova 7-5, 6-1 to win the A1 bracket. In the A2 bracket, Abbey Forbes and Reilly Tran defeated Wake Forest’s Maryam Ahmad and Sankavi Gownder 6-1, 6-1 to join their teammates in San Diego.

In singles play, UNC teammates Reese Brantmeier and Abbey Forbes will battle in the A1 bracket finals. In the A2 bracket, Anika Yarlagadda is set to face NC State’s Sophie Abrams in the finals with a spot in San Diego on the line.

The ITA Regional Final singles matches are set to begin at 11 a.m. today at North Carolina’s Chewning Tennis Center.
