LOS ANGELES – A tightly contested doubles point gave the Bruins the early lead and UCLA added three singles wins to beat the Husky men’s tennis team, 4-0, at the Los Angeles Tennis Center today. Washington drops to 10-9 on the season and 1-4 in Pac-12 play.
Doubles came down to court three after the teams split the first two matches. UCLA’s Leustian/Zahraj topped Brett Pearson and Nedim Suko, 6-3, at the No. 2 spot, but Cesar Bouchelaghem and Dzianis Zharyn rallied from 1-4 down at No. 1 doubles and beat Revelli/Li in a tiebreaker, 7-2, to even it up. But UCLA earned a 7-5 win at No. 3 over Han-Chih Lin and Jim Hendrikx to clinch the point.
UCLA took command with first set wins on all six courts in singles play. Gianluca Ballotta made it 2-0 with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Hendrikx at No. 5 singles. Revelli then beat Zharyn, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 2 singles, and UCLA clinched with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 6 singles by Timothy Li over Brett Pearson.
Cesar Bouchelaghem had forced a third set on court three against Aadarsh Tripathi, but they were unable to finish at 1-2 in the third set. Han-Chih Lin was down a set and even at 3-3 in the second at No. 1 singles against Zahraj, and Nedim Suko trailed 3-6, 2-4, at No. 4 singles against Azuma Visaya.
UW takes on the highest-ranked team in the Pac-12 tomorrow, visiting No. 10 USC in a match that starts at 1:30 p.m.
