Tverijonaite Set for NCAA Singles Championships in Waco

Tempe, Ariz. – Sophomore Emilija Tverijonaite is headed to Waco, Texas for the NCAA Singles Championship beginning Tuesday. Tverijonaite is ranked No. 52 in the preseason ITA rankings and will face Virginia’s Elaine Chevinsky in the round of 64.

The singles and doubles championships are held separately from the spring team championships in the first of two years in a pilot program. The championships will be streamed on ESPN+ with commentary courtesy of Cracked Racquets.

This fall, Tverijonaite boasts a 12-1 record and became the first Sun Devil to qualify for the singles tournament since Ilze Hattingh in 2021. The Lithuanian also won the singles title at the USTA Intercollegiate championships in San Diego in September. Announced last week, Tverijonaite is one of the 9-16 seeds in the draw.

The sophomore also holds a 3-0 record in three-set matches this fall and carved her own path to the NCAA Singles tournament by finishing in third at the ITA Southwest Regional in October going 5-1. Due to a finalist already qualified for the NCAA championships in the regional, the second qualifier went to the third place match.
