San Diego – On the third day of action at ITA Regionals in San Diego, Emilija Tverijonaite and Sara Svetac won their respective singles matches Saturday afternoon to move into Sunday’s quarterfinal which will begin at 10 a.m. AZT.
Tverijonaite won in 3 sets, 6-7, 6-3, 6-0, winning 12 of the last 15 games to secure the victory over Alexia Harmon. Svetac won in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 over Anna-Christine Lutkemeyer to move into the quarterfinals.
Through Saturday, the Sun Devils are 5-0 this week in three-set matches. This marks the second time this week that the sophomore from Lithuania has come from a set down to win a match.
According to the preseason ITA rankings, Svetac is ranked No. 124 in the country and will face off against No. 8 Savannah Broadus of Pepperdine. No. 52 Tverijonaite will battle against No. 15 Emma Charney of USC for spots in the semifinals.
In doubles, the Sun Devils went 2-1 in the round of 32, with the duo of Spaka/Svetac winning their first match 8-4, but fell in the round of 16. The pair of Nupbay/Tverijonaite also won their first match but fell to the No. 2 seed in the draw in the round of 16.
