USC women’s tennis has a pair of Trojans in line for an NCAA individual title this week as senior Eryn Cayetano and fresman Maddy Sieg have secured a place in the 2023 NCAA Singles draw. As a duo, Cayetano and Sieg also earned a place in the 2023 NCAA Doubles draw.

The two Trojans have settled into the courts at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. and will kick off the NCAA Individual Championships tomorrow (May 22) for action running through May 27.

No. 11 Sieg will face Tennessee’s Rebeka Mertena at 12:30 p.m. EST/9:30 a.m. PT in the Round of 64 on Monday, while No. 44 Cayetano will face Princeton’s Daria Frayman (9-16 seed) at noon EST on Monday.

In doubles, Cayetano and Sieg will face No. 3 seed Diana Shnaider/Alana Smith (NC State) to open NCAA action on Tuesday.

No. 11 Sieg carries a 28-2 overall singles record this season, going 18-1 in dual action. Carrying a four-match win streak, Sieg reached a career best singles ranking ahead of the beginning of the 2022-23 dual match season, debuting at No. 2 back in November. In Pac-12 singles action, the freshman went 9-1. Throughout the year, Sieg has beaten ten ranked opponents, including two in the top-15. This season, the freshman received Pac-12 Player of the Week honors during her USC debut and accumulated a 16-match unbeaten streak. With Sieg’s 9-16 seed, she becomes USC’s 100th All-American in program history.

No. 44 Cayetano, meanwhile, is headed to her second NCAA singles championship, reaching the quarterfinals last season. The senior began the fall as the No. 1 ranked singles player in the country. This season, the Southern California native has tallied an overall singles record of 22-11 (11-8 dual) while playing primarily at the No. 3 position for the Trojans.

USC’s top doubles duo – No. 17 Cayetano and Sieg – carry a 14-4 overall record in NCAA play. The duo will make their NCAA doubles debut this season.

Following the NCAA Team Championship event, Individual competition is set to run May 22-27 at the USTA National Complex in Orlando, Fla.
