Trio of Blue Devils Named in ITA National Preseason Rankings

DURHAM – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its national preseason rankings on Tuesday with a trio of Blue Devils named in the singles and doubles listing ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

Junior Emma Jackson (36) and graduate student Brianna Shvets (111) were among the top 125 singles rankings, while senior Karolina Berankova and Jackson checked in at No. 48 in the top 60 doubles rankings.

Jackson turned in a solid sophomore season with the Blue Devils with a 22-12 overall and 7-4 ACC mark in singles. The La Grange Park, Ill., native, registered two wins over top-10 opponents on the year and five total victories over ranked opponents. Her 13 wins at the No. 3 singles position last season ranked tied for 14th in the Duke record book. In her two years with the Blue Devils, Jackson holds an impressive 45-26 overall singles mark along with 12 ACC victories.

Shvets, who hails from Pennington, N.J., registered an impressive 25-6 overall singles ledger along with an 18-2 dual match and 9-1 ACC mark in her first season with the Blue Devils. She tallied 16-straight singles wins during the season and clinched the team victories against VCU and Florida State. She also posted an 8-5 record in doubles action. Shvets is currently attending the Duke Fuqua School of Business and earned All-ACC Academic and CSC Academic All-District recognition last season.

The tandem of Berankova and Jackson played together at the No. 2 doubles spot to close the season and registered a 6-1 overall record. The pair registered a 6-1 win over 53rd-ranked Alexa Noel and Isabella Pfenning of Miami in just their second contest together and helped the Blue Devils to a 4-3 victory over the Hurricanes. Berankova and Jackson also went 2-0 in the NCAA Team Championship with wins over Elise Van Meeteren and Emma Fernald of William & Mary and UCLA’s Ava Catanzarite and Sasha Vagramov.
