Treiber Clinches Illinois Sweep Over Minnesota

URBANA, Ill. – The Fighting Illini women’s tennis team won its third straight Big Ten match, earning a 4-0 sweep over Minnesota on Friday from the Atkins Tennis Center. Illinois won the doubles point before winning every completed set of singles action.

No. 32 Illinois improves to 13-6 on the season and 5-1 in league play with Friday’s win over Minnesota. The Orange and Blue climbed to 9-1 in home matches with the victory.

Minnesota moves to 10-8 overall and 3-3 in Big Ten play.

Illinois claimed the doubles point over the Gophers with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Kida Ferrari and Josie Frazier finished first at No. 2, earning a 6-1 victory and climbing to 5-4 overall when working together. McKenna Schaefbauer and Kasia Treiber teamed up at No. 3 doubles again and earned a 6-3 victory to clinch the opening point. The duo is now 5-1 playing together this season.

The Fighting Illini have claimed the doubles point in 11 matches this season including four Big Ten outings.

To open singles play, Illinois took the opening set on all six courts.

Schaefbauer would go on to be the first Illini off the singles courts with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2 over her Minnesota counterpart. She never trailed in her match and is now 14-6 overall, 11-3 in dual play, and 3-1 in Big Ten action.

Heuser was the next Illini off the courts, earning a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles. Heuser never trailed, hopping out to quick 2-0 leads in both of her sets. She junior is up to a 7-5 dual record, all on the top court.
