Togan Tokac Signs With Gators

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida men’s tennis head coach Bryan Shelton has announced the signing of one of the top junior players in the world, Togan Tokac.

“Togan is a dedicated young man who has a desire to get better both on and off the court,” Shelton said. “Togan has a magnetic personality which matches his dynamic game. He is an excellent student and I have high expectations for him both in the classroom and the court.”

A native of Istanbul, Turkey, Tokac has put together a solid junior career. Ranked as high as No. 59 in the ITF junior rankings, the Gator has won six ITF doubles titles and an ITF singles title.

Four of his doubles titles came in 2021 and 2022 and his most recent doubles victory was at J1 Villena in Spain. Paired up with Dylan Dietrich, the two picked up four-straight wins to claim the doubles title back in March.

He also competed in doubles at the Roland Garros Junior Championships, moving on to the quarterfinals with Dietrich. At the same tournament, Tokac won both of his singles qualifying matches against two top-100 junior players to advance to the main draw.

In addition, the Turkey native collected a win in qualifying over Oliver Bonding in straight sets at the Wimbledon Junior Championships.

Tokac claimed his first ITF singles title at J3 Svyatopetrivske village, where he defeated No. 1 seed and top-75 junior player, Artem Podorozhnyi, in the semifinals before taking down 4-seeded Baran Soyler in straight sets to win the tournament.

He was also a singles quarterfinalist at J1 Vrsar, J2 Istanbul and J2 Rakovnik, a singles finalist at J3 Irpin, as well as a doubles finalist at J1 Plovdiv and a doubles semifinalist at J1 Vrsar and J3 Svyatopetrivske village.

Tokac joins Jonah Braswell, Tanapatt Nirundorn and Axel Nefve as the Gators’ newcomers on the team this fall.

“Togan has lofty goals and our staff is really looking forward to helping him work towards his potential,” Shelton added. “The Gators certainly got better today with this signing.”
