Three Ducks Doubles Pairs Advance to Quarterfinals; Breazu to Singles Quarterfinals

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Oregon men’s tennis team picked up big individual and doubles victories this week at the ITA Northwest Regional hosted by Gonzaga.
 
August Gustafson got things started with a three-set win over Bruno Ortega, followed by a straight-set win over Nedim Suko. He’s set to face Clement Hamel on Friday afternoon. Luke Vandecasteele beat Andrea Brignacca 6-2, 5-7, 7-5, while Vlad Breazu picked up a win over Veselin Kiseikov. Ray Lo and Avi Shugar also advanced to the round of 16, each picking up straight-set wins.
 
Breazu advanced to the quarterfinals in singles and his matchup is to be determined. He won 6-2, 7-6(5) on Friday afternoon.
 
The Ducks entered Friday undefeated in doubles play. Russell Soohoo and Avi Shugar teaming up to defeat Sarvik/Dalos and Lin/Suko to reach the quarterfinal. Ray Lo and Luke Vandecasteele advanced to the quarterfinal after a bye and a win over Semerak/Brignacca, followed by Vlad Breazu and August Gustafson picking up a win over Hsieh/Stipic.
 
All three pairs advanced to the quarterfinals on Friday afternoon. Soohoo/Shugar (8-5), Lo/Vandecasteele (8-7 (8), and Breazu/Gustafson (8-3) will all play Saturday morning for a spot in the semifinals.
