Three Cougars Earn CSC Academic All-District Accolades


PULLMAN, Wash. (May 16, 2024) – Three Washington State tennis student-athletes were named CSC Academic All-District by the College Sports Communicators, it was announced by the organization this week.
 
Junior Elyse Tse and sophomores Eva Alvarez Sande and Yura Nakagawa each were recognized for their athletic and academic achievements. It marks the second-straight honor for Tse and first for Alvarez Sande and Nakagawa.
 
Tse, from Auckland, New Zealand, posted 15-11 singles record, mainly at No. 2, while teaming with Alvarez Sande to go 17-10 in the No. 1 doubles position. The junior went 13-2 to begin the season, including 10-0 to start the spring season, Tse boasts a 3.93 GPA while majoring in digital technology and culture.
 
Alvarez Sande, from Coruna, Galicia, Spain, was named to the All-Pac-12 Conference Second Team for the second-consecutive season. During the 2024 season, Alvarez Sande posted a 17-11 overall singles record and teamed with Tse to go 17-10 in doubles. Alvarez Sande played in the No. 1 singles and doubles position in each dual match during the season. A bioengineering major, she carries a 3.69 GPA while being named to the President’s Honor Roll each semester this academic year.
 
Nakagawa, a sophomore from Yokohama, Japan, earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention accolades for the first time in her career. After opening the season winning 12 of her first 13 singles matches, Nakagawa posted an 18-12 singles record and a team-leading 19 doubles wins with partner Fifa Kumhom. A business major, she carries a 3.54 GPA while being named to the President’s Honor Roll each semester this academic year.
 
The 2024 Academic All-District Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Nominated student-athletes must have participated in at least 90% of the school’s scheduled competitions and maintain a 3.50 GPA.
 
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced later this month.
