Three Blue Devils Advance at ITA All-American


TULSA, Okla. – Three Blue Devils advanced during the opening round of the main draw on Wednesday at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
 
Sophomore Pedro Rodenas, who earned a 9-16 seed at the event and holds a No. 18 national rank, kicked off with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over No. 49 Alex Martinez of Oklahoma. He advances to the round of 32 and faces No. 27 Iiro Vasa of San Diego on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. Central.
 
Additionally, the graduate student doubles pair of 5-8 seed and No. 10 ranked Michael Heller and Andrew Zhang won their opening match against No. 38 Duncan Chan and Lui Maxted of TCU in three sets. The Horned Frogs claimed a 6-4 victory in the first frame, but Heller and Zhang rebounded for 6-3, 10-6 wins in the final two sets to register the win. The duo advances to face No. 28 Ryan Fishback and Alberto Orso of Virginia Tech on Thursday in the round of 16 at 2:30 p.m.
