The Gators Continue Action at ITA Regional Championships


ATHENS, Ga. – The Florida men’s tennis team continues action at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regional Championships on Saturday at the University of Georgia.

Tanapatt Nirundorn battled in three sets against Toto Llanes (USF). Nirundorn dropped the first set 4-6 but came back and took the second set 6-1. In the third set, Nirundorn defeated Llanes 7-6 to move to the next round. In the Round of 32, Nirundorn faced Gabriele Brancatelli (Georgia Tech) and won the match in a 6-3, 6-2 straight set effort. The junior moved to the Round of 16 on Friday, but fell to Oscar Pinto Sansano (Georgia) 6-1, 6-2.

JanMagnus Johnson and Pierre Mouesca (Georgia Southern) pushed their match into a third set in the Round of 64. Johnson fell 3-6 in the first set, but battled in the second winning 6-2, to force a tiebreak. The Florida veteran clinched the final set 6-2. Johnson dropped his match against Ryan Colby (Georgia) 6-1, 6-2 in the Round of 32.

Kevin Edengren dominated in the Round of 64 defeating Hugo Salmeron (Kennesaw) in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Edengren had a similar result in the Round of 32 against Aaron James Williams (Georgia Southern). Edengren secured the match in a 6-2, 6-2 effort. In the Round of 16, Edengren faced Miguel Perez Pena (Georgia). Pena took the first set 6-2, but Edengren extended the match to a third set after winning the second 6-4. Despite his effort, Edengren fell to Pena 2-6 in the final set.

Jeremy Jin competed against Cyrus Mahjoob (Georgia) in the Round of 64. Jin won 6-2 in the opening set, but Mahjoob responded with a 6-3 win in the second to force a third. Jin secured the match victory with a 6-2 effort and moved on to the Round of 32. Jin’s next match was against Nate Bonetto (Georgia Tech). Bonetto took the first set 7-6, but Jin battled in the second to clinch a 7-5 win. Jin closed out the third set with a 6-4 victory. In the Round of 16, Jin defeated Elijah Cham (USF) 7-5, 6-2 solidifying his place in the Quarterfinals. Jin saw a tough opponent in Pena and dropped the match 7-6, 6-1.

Henry Jefferson faced his first singles loss of the fall tournament season in the Round of 64. Jefferson and Martin Katz saw their match decided in three sets. In the first set, Jefferson claimed the first set 6-1, but Katz leveled the match with a 7-6 win in the second. Jefferson fell 5-7 in the third set and moved to the consolation bracket. Jefferson defeated Luca Miremont (FAU) 7-6, 6-0 to advance to the consolation…
