Terrapins Finish Competition at Martha Thorn Invitational

MORGANTOWN WV — The University of Maryland women’s tennis team wrapped up competition at the Martha Thorn Invitational on Sunday. 

The Terps were represented by six student-athletes during the three day tournament, going 7-10 in singles and a stellar 8-1 in doubles overall.

“It was great to get fall started this weekend at the Martha Thorn invitational. We were able to get lots of good matches under our belts,” said Head Coach Katie Dougherty. “The team did a great job in doubles, implementing many of the things we worked on past couple weeks. We look to build off this tournament and are excited to head to Regionals in two weeks.”

Tamari Gagoshidze, Ema Kovacevic and Oliwia Orlinska represented the Terrapins for the first time their careers. Gagoshidze went 2-1 in singles and 2-1 in doubles play. Kovacevic went 0-2 in singles and 3-0 in doubles. Orlinska went 1-2 in singles and 3-0 in doubles.

Diya Challa opened her fall slate this weekend, going 1-2 in singles and 3-0 in doubles. 

Aida Eissa and Katherine Hung competed for the second time this fall, after opening their season at the Bedford Cup. Eissa went 2-1 in singles and 3-0 in doubles. Hung went 1-2 in singles and 2-1 in doubles.

The Terrapins next competition will be at the ITA Regional Championships in Charlotsville, VA.
