Box Score NEW YORK — The Rutgers women’s tennis team concluded its ITA Regionals run at Columbia University on Sunday.
Rutgers competed in one round of doubles and two rounds of singles play to close out the weekend. The Scarlet Knights’ time in New York ended with one quarterfinalist doubles team, and three players making it into the singles round of 16.
Doubles
Following their wins in the rounds of 32 and 16 on Saturday, Tara Chilton and Yana Gurevich set themselves up to face Isabella Chhiv and Maia Sung of Princeton in the quarterfinals. The Scarlet Knights battled, but their time in the doubles bracket ended following an 8-4 loss to the Tigers.
Singles
Five players competed in singles competitions for Rutgers on Sunday. Minchae Kim, Mai Nguyen, Amira Badawi, Gurevich, and Chilton all started the day with rounds of 32 matches.
Kim faced Maya Urata of Penn, battling to claim a 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (8-6) win to advance to the round of 16.
Badawi downed the Quakers’ Saige Roshkoff, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8), to join her teammate in the round of 16.
Gurevich also earned a hard-fought round of 32 win, defeating Columbia’s Gayathri Krishnan, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8), to move on in the tournament.
Chilton and Nguyen’s regional run ended in the round of 32.
The three Scarlet Knights to advance all battled in their round of 16 competitions, but each fell in their matches to conclude RU’s run in the tournament.
