PHILADELPHIA — The Rutgers women’s tennis team completed day two of the ITA Regionals hosted by University of Pennsylvania on Friday Oct. 11.
RU was perfect in advancing its doubles pairs, highlighted by Minchae Kim and Karina Jumazahonva earning their third doubles win as a pair this season, good for the team lead.
Mai Nguyen, Zuzanna Frankowska and Jackie Lopez all advanced to the Round of 32 in singles play, with Frankowska and Lopez recording their third wins of the tournament.
Singles
After a first round bye, Nguyen defeated Lorie Lemongo of Drexel in her first match of regionals, winning 6-3, 6-4. She will face Amber Yin of Columbia in the Round of 32.
Frankowska took control of the team lead in singles wins with five victories on this young season. She battled against Elisa Rigazio of Drexel and won 6-1, 7-6 (3).
Lopez took on Julianne Nguyen of Fordham and won both matches 6-4 in route to her third win of the tournament.
Kim and Cindy Zhou will compete in the consolation draw Saturday morning.
Doubles
Rutgers swept the competition in Philadelphia, advancing all four pairs to the Round of 16.
Kim and Jumazhanova have paired up in doubles play all year amassing a 3-1 record. They took on Jenna Svatos and Ksenia Reznitskaya of LIU, winning 8-4.
Nguyen and Zeynep Ilker used an 8-5 victory over Sandra Dzhambazov and Charlotta Buss of St. Johns to earn a spot in the next round.
Naomi Karki and Zhou are still undefeated as a double pair this season, winning on Friday 8-3 against Giselle Vlassis and Hannah Letzer of Lehigh.
Frankowska and Lopez advance to the Round of 16 via default from Wagner’s Liepa Sataite and Dariana Vera.
