COLUMBIA, Mo. — University of Missouri tennis prepares for its final home matches starting Friday, April 5, against No. 11 Texas A&M at 2 p.m. CT. Sunday, April 7, the Tigers resume action with a doubleheader against LSU at 10 a.m. CT and then Saint Louis at 3 p.m. All matches will be played at the Country Club of Missouri unless weather conditions force them inside. In that case, the teams will move into the Green Tennis Center.
Missouri enters the weekend 4-17 overall and 0-9 in Southeastern Conference action. Most recently, Mizzou dropped road matches to No. 63 Kentucky (4-0) and No. 27 Vanderbilt (4-0). Redshirt senior Mae Canete and junior Inah Canete are currently ranked 65th in the country in doubles play by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
No. 11-ranked Texas A&M comes to town with a 16-6 record and is 8-1 in SEC play this season. The conference opposition topped both Kentucky and LSU 6-1 on March 25 and 29, respectively. The Aggie’s No. 1 pair of Mary Stoiana and Mia Kupres are ranked fifth in doubles. Additionally, Stoiana is the No. 1 ranked singles player in the country. Nicole Khirin is 18th, while Kupres is No. 38.
Entering the weekend 11-8 overall, LSU is 3-6 in conference this year and has lost four of its last five. The Tigers last win came against Kentucky (5-2), with their two most recent losses coming from Vanderbilt (4-3) and Texas A&M (6-1). The squad’s No. 1 singles player, Florentine Dekkers, is ranked 99th in the nation.
Closing out the weekend, the contest against Saint Louis will serve as Mizzou’s senior match, with the senior ceremony starting at 2:40 p.m. SLU is 12-1 this season and comes into the weekend off its first loss of the season, dropping 4-0 to No. 60 Kansas.
