Tennis Qualifies One For Main Draw In Day One Of ITA Regional


LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Missouri tennis team completed day one of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships today, Oct. 12. Senior Romary Cardenas Rifka won both of her singles matches, qualifying for the main draw.  

In the round of 128, Cardenas Rifka earned her first win of the day, 6-1, 6-2, over Angelina Joao of Saint Louis. Moving on to the round of 64, the senior collected her second victory of the day (6-3, 6-7 (10-3)), defeating Sumomo Hamanaga from Central Arkansas. Junior Sophia McLellan saw first-day action as well, dropping singles matches to competitors from SIUE and UT Martin. 

Coming up in day two action on Friday, Oct. 13, the remaining Tigers will begin singles play, along with all Mizzou doubles duos opening competition in the main draw rounds.
