Tennis Picks Up Three Wins on Day Two of Drake Invite


DES MOINES, Iowa – The University of Missouri women’s tennis team wraps up day two of play at the Drake Invite at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center hosted by Drake University on Thursday, Nov. 4, adding three wins to the weekend. 

Mizzou started the day with doubles matches against the University of St. Thomas, picking up two victories against the Tomcats. The doubles duo of graduate student Gabriela Martinez and senior Romary Cardenas Rifka secured the win against Marthe Degeorges and Jannah El Nemr (6-3), with graduate student Emelie Schwarte and sophomore Andrea Artimedi adding another victory against Regina Talavera and Caroline Lindahl (6-3) to the weekend’s total.

The Tigers added a singles win against the University of Minnesota, totaling four victories for the women’s tennis team in the invite. Martinez faced off against Sofia Pizzoni and collected the victory, scoring 6-1, 7-5. Artimedi, Cardenas Rifka and junior Sophia McLellan also saw singles action today.

Tomorrow, Nov. 5, action will begin at 10 a.m. with doubles matches against Drake University, and the weekend’s competition will close out with singles at 11 a.m. against University of St. Thomas.

UP NEXT

Closing out the fall season, the Tigers will return to the courts on Jan. 9 against Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Ariz.
