MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Missouri tennis had success on Thursday, Oct. 10, on the second day of singles play at the ITA Central Regional Championships, hosted by University of Memphis.
Opening the day with doubles play, graduate student Lailaa Bashir and freshman Gian Octa secured the win over Alice Amendola and Rebecca Frant of Memphis in the round of 64. Battling hard, senior Inah Canete and freshman Korina Roso dropped a tight match to Jasmine Adams and Kyoka Kubo of Kansas.
In singles B draw, freshman Sarah Hartel and Octa advanced to the quarterfinals with wins over Clara Whitaker of Wichita State and Isabella Basson of Tulsa, respectively. Canete saw her first singles action of the championship, besting Pia Kranholdt of Iowa.
UP NEXT
After a win in the first round, Bashir and Octa will advance to the round of 32 doubles and take on Lily Hutchings and Maria Berlanga of Tulsa on Friday at 9 a.m. Canete will compete in the main draw round of 32 singles at 10 a.m., while Hartel and Octa will compete in the quarterfinals of the singles B draw starting at 2 p.m.
