ATHENS, Ga. — University of Missouri tennis is slated to play 11-seed Alabama in the first match of the 2024 SEC Tournament on Wednesday, April 17. The first serve is set for 10 a.m. CT, where 14-seeded Missouri will face off at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
Mizzou walks into its final weekend of competition with a 5-21 overall record and a 0-13 record against SEC opponents. Its opening-round opponent Alabama holds a 14-9 record on the season and a 5-8 mark in the SEC.
The Tigers just came off a close 4-1 loss on Sunday, April 17, at Mississippi State in their final regular season match of the 2024 season. Mizzou claimed an early 6-1 doubles win on court one with the duo of senior Mae Canete and junior Inah Canete, but ultimately could not secure the point after losing the doubles decisive point, 7-6. After winning five out of the six first sets, the Tigers continued the momentum, with M. Canete grabbing a singles win in the No. 1 spot over the Bulldogs.
LAST TIME THEY MET
Mizzou last faced off against Alabama on Sunday, March 10 at the University of Alabama Tennis Center, narrowly falling to the Tide, 4-2. The Tigers could not pull away with the doubles point after dropping in the No. 1 and 3 spots to the Tide.
The Tigers turned on the heat heading into singles play, splitting the matches 2-2. M. Canete and sophomore Andrea Artimedi secured wins on courts one and six, respectively, as the Tigers collected two points on the scoreboard.
UP NEXT
The winner of Wednesday’s matchup between Missouri and Alabama will advance to the No. 6 seed, South Carolina, on Thursday, April 18. The match will begin at 8 a.m. CT.
