Tennis Gears Up for ITA Central Regional Championships

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — University of Missouri tennis hits the road to the Volunteer State for the ITA Division I Central Regional Championships hosted by the University of Memphis. Competition opens on Wednesday, Oct. 9 and closes on Monday Oct. 14.

Over 8,000 student-athletes compete spanning NCAA Divisions I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges at 85 ITA Regional Championships across the nation. For Division I athletes, regional doubles/singles champions and finalists contend for an invitation to the session-ending ITA National Fall Championships.

Mizzou opens play on Wednesday, Oct. 9 with Round of 64 singles matches at 9 a.m. with freshman Korina Roso facing off against Anet Koskel of University of Arkansas. Graduate student Lailaa Bashir, also, kicks off singles play at 9 a.m. against Ethel Li of University of North Dakota.

Last year, Mizzou picked up 14 team wins across the four days of tournament play in Lawrence, Kansas with graduate Mae Canete and current senior Inah Canete advancing to the semifinal round of doubles play. Because of their strong finish at the regional competition, the duo secured a spot in the ITA National Fall Championships in San Diego, California, being one of 64 selected doubles teams to participate.
