Tennis Finishes Day Four at ITA Central Regional Championships


MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Missouri Tennis wraps up the fourth day of competition at the ITA Central Regional Championships on Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Leftwich Tennis Center by the host school, Memphis. 

After battling her way to the singles B-Draw Finals, freshman Gian Octa opened the day against Deniz Turan of Minnesota. Octa fought to the tiebreak in her final match but could not hold on, falling to Turan, 6-3, 7-5, (10-8).

Mizzou continued their singles action with the Round of 64 play in the Saturday Draw with senior Inah Canete grabbing a win against Tulsa’s  Saniya Singh, 6-2, 6-3. Graduate student Lailaa Bashir also walked away with a straight-set singles win against Wichita State’s Sati Aubakirova, 6-3, 6-4. Also seeing singles Saturday Draw action, freshman Sarah Hartel dropped to Sofia Pinto of Minnesota, 6-4, 6-4.

UP NEXT

Canete and Bashir will compete in the Round of 32 for the singles Saturday Draw against Katie Ferguson of Arkansas and Emily Meyer of Memphis, respectively. The matches are scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 13.
