Tennis Extends Road Series With Weekend In Virginia

LYNCHBURG, Va. — The University of Missouri women’s tennis team stretches its road series with a weekend in Virginia to face off against Liberty University, Radford University and James Madison University at the Liberty Indoor Tennis Center. The Tigers are penciled in to play the Liberty Flames on Friday, Feb. 2, and both the Highlanders of Radford and the Dukes of James Madison on Saturday, Feb. 3.

Mizzou wrapped up a weekend at the Arizona Hidden Duals in Tuscon, Ariz., and fell short of finding their first win of the season (0-5). Tennis opened the competition against Michigan State University but could not seize the win against the Spartans (4-1), where senior Mae Canete snagged the team’s singles point in the No. 1 spot (6-3, 3-6, 2-6). The Tigers fell to BYU in the series (4-1), with senior Gabriela Martinez taking home a singles point in a two-set battle to win (7-6 (7), 6-0). The Wildcats of Arizona grabbed the win 4-0 to close out the weekend with the Mizzou duo of junior Inah Canete and M. Canete dominating their doubles match (6-0), but the Tigers fell flat on grabbing the doubles point.

Tennis last faced off against the Flames on Feb. 23, 2022, where the Tigers lost the tight match 4-3 and put Liberty up 1-0 in the series history. Liberty kicks off the weekend with a 1-1 season record for the 2024 season.

The Tigers are up 1-0 in program history against the Highlanders, facing off last on Feb. 3, 2018, and took the win 4-0. Radford is currently sitting at a 0-2 record in the 2024 campaign. Mizzou leads the Dukes 1-0 in the series record with a hard-fought win (4-3) in the last meeting on Feb. 23, 2022. James Madison is going into the weekend’s competition with a 2-2 record on the young season.
