Tennis Earns Academic Recognition - Rutgers University Athletics

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – For the ninth consecutive year, Rutgers tennis was celebrated for its performance in the classroom as the squad was named an ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) All-Academic Team for the 2022-23 academic year. It is the 15th time in the previous 18 seasons that RU has earned the distinction.

In the spring, the Scarlet Knights carried a 3.60 term GPA, and six of eight student-athletes earned a spot on the Dean’s List.

ITA All-Academic teams are programs that have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form and all varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.

Additionally, six Scarlet Knights – Chloe Brown, Daira Cardenas, Tara Chilton, Jackeline Lopez, Arina Valitova and Alisa Prinyarux – were named ITA Scholar-Athletes. Brown and Prinyarux were chosen to the list for the third-straight year.

To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and be listed on the institutional eligibility form.

In addition to the ITA recognition, five Scarlet Knights were also picked by the Big Ten as Brown, Cardenas, Minchae Kim, Lopez and Prinyarux to earn Academic All-Big Ten selections. Cardenas became a three-time honoree while Brown and Prinyarux are two-time honorees.

To be eligible for an Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must have been enrolled full-time at the institution for a minimum of 12 months and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
