Tennis Drops Big Ten Road Match at Penn State

No. 10 Ohio State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Rutgers tennis fell at Penn State on Friday by a 4-1 score in its penultimate Big Ten match of the regular season. Daira Cardenas led the Scarlet Knights with wins in doubles and singles play in the conference matchup.

The Nittany Lions took a closely contested doubles point that came down to a 7-6(7-5) win at the No. 1 spot after spitting at second and third doubles. Cardenas and Jackeline Lopez won their third doubles match, 6–4, their first win together as a pair this season.

Cardenas won her third Big Ten singles match of the season, and team-leading ninth overall, with the comfortable 6-0, 6-4 victory at sixth singles. 

Alisa Prinyarux was a game away from a No. 5 singles victory, up 7-6 (7-5), 6-5 when the match was clinched. Sydney Kaplan won the opening set, 6-3, at third singles before her Penn State opponent rallied in sets two and three. Minchae Kim’s match went unfinished in a close one, 6-4, 6-7 (1-7), heading into the third set.

The Scarlet Knights wrap up the regular season at Ohio State on April 24 at 11 a.m.
