Tennis Advances to Final at Brown Invite


PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Rutgers women’s tennis team wrapped up day two at the Brown Invitational in Providence, Rhode Island Saturday night. The Scarlet Knights faced opponents from Yale, Boston College and Brown, collecting six wins and advancing to the finals Sunday morning.

Zeynep Ilker was perfect on the day, earning a doubles and singles win to help RU into the finals.

Doubles

In their first doubles match of the year, Ilker and Jackie Lopez beat Sophia Zaslow and Angela Huang of Yale by a score of 6-3.

Naomi Karki and Cindy Zhou extended their team lead in doubles wins to five with a win Saturday over Anne Moody and Anne Yang of Brow, 7-5.

Singles

Four Scarlet Knights won on the singles court Saturday including Minchae Kim and Ilker. Kim took on Shyla Aggarwal of Yale and won, 6-4, 7-5, while Ilker came out on top over Boston College’s Seren Agar, 7-5, 6-4.

Karina Jumazhanova won her fifth straight singles match of the fall with a victory over Angela Huang of Yal,  6-3, 6-4.

Zuzanna Frankowska continues to pace the team with seven  singles victories this season. She defeated Sophia Zaslow of Yaleon Saturday,  6-2, 6-3.

Next Up

Rutgers will take on host school Brown in the final Sunday morning at 9 a.m.
