Tennessee Finishes Knoxville Showdown with 25 Wins

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee men’s tennis team wrapped up a successful Knoxville Showdown Sunday, totaling 25 total victories over the four-day event.

The Vols’ pair of wins on day four each came on the doubles courts Sunday morning. UT’s pairing of sophomore Shunsuke Mitsui and graduate student Tomas Rodriguez defeated Illinois’ Nic Meister/Kenta Miyoshi in 6-1 fashion. The duo took the first five games of the match en route to victory.

Soon to follow was another doubles win, this time by graduate students Emile Hudd and Kent Hunter. The win, in the duo’s first action together at Tennessee, came over Oliver Okonkwo/Mathis Debru of Illinois, 6-2. Hudd and Hunter broke the Illinois pairing right off the bat, before going up a double break at 3-0. Following a deuce point at 4-2, the Vols went back up a pair of breaks before Hunter served out the win.
