Tennessee Concludes Successful Weekend at SEC/Big 12 Challenge


STILLWATER, Okla.  Members of Tennessee’s tennis squad wrapped up an impressive weekend at the SEC/Big 12 Challenge Sunday, notching a 7-1 singles record at Greenwood Tennis Center.
 
Tennessee finished 9-2 overall as the SEC dominated the event, outscoring the Big 12, 34-12.
 
On the final day of singles competition, the Vols went head-to-head against host Oklahoma State. Chris Li rolled past Carl Roothman, 6-1, 6-1, while James Newton dropped a hard-fought three-set match, 4-6, 7-6, 6-0 to Erik Schiessl.

Braysach/Poulson (Baylor) def. Li/Newton (Tennessee) 8-3

Chris Li (Tennessee) def. Carl Roothman (Oklahoma State) 6-1, 6-1

Erik Schiessl (Oklahoma State) def. James Newton (Tennessee) 4-6, 7-6, 6-0

Alabama – 10-7

Texas A&M – 15-3
