Teixido Garcia Tabbed Pac-12 Player of the Week

EUGENE, Ore. – Having won five straight singles matches and seven consecutive doubles matches, junior Ares Teixido Garcia was named Pac-12 Player of the Week on Tuesday, the conference office announced.

Teixido Garcia is off to a 7-2 start this spring, primarily playing at the No. 2 position in the Ducks’ singles lineup. She is 5-0 at the second spot and ran her winning streak to five consecutive singles matches after a pair of wins over the weekend against Boise State and Fresno State, the defending Mountain West Conference champion.

A native of Lleida, Span, Teixido Garcia won in straight sets against BSU’s Lorelyz Marruffo, 6-0, 6-4, to begin the weekend and finished with a three-set victory over Fresno State’s Matilde Magrini. Teixido Garcia recovered from a first-set defeat to win the next two sets, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Partnered with freshman Jo-Yee Chan, the duo handled business on court two, first taking down Joana Baptista and Holly Stewart of Boise State, 6-2, then defeating the Bulldogs’ Meshkatolzahra Safi and Mariia Vyshkina, 6-0.

Teixido Garcia and Chan are a perfect 7-0 when paired together this spring, including six wins as the Ducks’ No. 2 tandem.

Teixido Garcia becomes just the seventh Duck to be named Pac-12 Player of the Week since the award’s inception in 2006, and the first since Janice Tjen in 2021.

Winning four of its last five matches, Oregon heads to Santa Barbara, Calif., to take on UC Santa Barbara on Sunday at 11 a.m. PT. The match will be UO’s final non-conference match before Pac-12 play begins at home against Arizona on March 3.
