Virginia TECH

CLEMSON, S.C. – No. 61 Virginia Tech (10-10, 3-9) drops season finale against No. 56 Clemson (13-13, 4-8), 2-5.

Tech’s final match of the regular season would not begin how they wanted it to. The No. 63 pairing of Ryan Fishback and Maxime St. Hilaire fell on court one to No. 89 Noa Vukadin and Maxwell Smith. Matt Harper and Alberto Orso were able to level the score with a 6-4 victory on court two. Unfortunately, Hugo Maia and Manuel Goncalves were outmatched on court three, falling 5-7, and giving Clemson the doubles point.

Singles play began with a loss for Virginia Tech, as No. 93 Ryan Fishback was defeated in two sets by No. 104 Ryuhei Azuma. Michael Shepheard also fell on court three, quickly giving Clemson a 3-0 lead in the match.

Momentum quickly shifted towards Virginia Tech, as Maxime St. Hilaire upset No. 95 Wissam Abderrahman on court two, 6-0, 1-6, 6-2, for Tech’s first point of the match. This momentum quickly dwindled away with Hugo Maia‘s loss to Marko Mesarovic on court four.

Alberto Orso would get himself back on track with a three-set victory on court six, defeating Maxwell Smith 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, to make the score 4-2 in favor of the Tigers. Alex Ix would fall in the final match in three sets.
