THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team (9-5, 0-0 ACC) took down UNCW (3-3, 0-0 CAA) in a 5-2 decision and finished the weekend of competition with two more wins heading into conference play.
Tech started the match off right by claiming the doubles point. No. 21 Andres Martin and Marcus McDaniel gave Tech an early win in doubles. They beat UNCW’s Reece Falck and Beka Rasamatov in a quick 6-1 decision. The doubles point came down to the matches on court two and three. While both matches went into the tiebreaker round, Brandon McKinney and Elias Shokry came out on top first with a winning score of 7-6 [7-4] over UNCW’s Harold Huens and Trey Mallory.
Tech won four out of the six singles matches. No. 34 Martin claimed the first win in singles with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Harold Huens.
The Seahawks tied up the match at 2-2 with two straight wins in singles. Sachdev put the Jackets up 3-2 with his victory over UNCW’s Davide Innocenti (6-4, 3-6, 6-4). The match came down the pending results on courts three and six. No. 85 Keshav Chopra’s 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over Beka Rasamatov sealed the victory for Tech. To top off the day, Shokry ended up defeating Alex DeGabriele in a 7-6 [7-3], 6-7 [4-7], 6-4 decision.
