Tech completes first day of competition at Bonita Bay Classic


BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team wrapped up the first day of competition at the Bonita Bay Classic on Friday evening.

Alvaro Ariza earned an impressive win against Memphis’ David Stevenson, who was ranked No. 125 in the ITA’s preseason rankings, in straight sets. In doubles, Alvaro paired up with Frank Thompson claiming a hard-fought 77-63 win over challengers from FGCU. Matt Harper finished the day with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 win over FGCU’s Carter Bradford.

The Hokies will be back in action tomorrow at 3 p.m. taking on FGCU.
