Tar Heel Men To Host 2024 ITA Kickoff Weekend Regional

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—The University of North Carolina men’s tennis team once again will host matches in the annual ITA Kickoff Weekend in 2024.

Based on finishing No. 14 in the final 2023 ITA Team Rankings, the Tar Heel men were assured of hosting a Kickoff Weekend regional in ’24. After the Intercollegiate Tennis Association held its ITA Kickoff Weekend Draft this week, Carolina now knows it will be hosting a power-packed set of opponents on the last weekend of January at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center indoor courts.

Carolina will be the No. 1 seed in the men’s North Carolina Regional, and it will be hosting three other traditional college tennis powers:  No. 2 seed Wake Forest, No. 3 seed Florida and No. 4 seed Illinois.

The Tar Heel women’s team also will host Kickoff Weekend matches next January.

After two days of drafting, the 60 team fields are now set for the 2024 ITA Men’s and Women’s Kickoff Weekend, which will take place from January 26-29, 2024 on college campuses across the country.

With many factors taken into consideration (travel, opponent, etc.), the ITA Kickoff Weekend Draft gives coaches the power to choose where their team plays. With the 15 host sites already determined based on 2023 year-end rankings, the remaining teams were able to choose where they want to play based on year-end finish starting with the No. 16 ranked team and running until all of the spots are filled.

In 2023, the Tar Heels beat Oklahoma State and 13th-ranked Harvard in a pair of ITA Kickoff Weekend matches in Chapel Hill, advancing to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Chicago. The Tar Heels won ITA National Indoor titles in both 2016 and 2021.
