Hosting the event at Taube Family Tennis Stadium for the 15th straight time, the Cardinal featured eight players in singles and four doubles pairs.
Stanford dominated the singles draw, producing all four semifinalists for the first time since 2017 (Emily Arbuthnott, Michaela Gordon, Melissa Lord, Janice Shin). It was the second year in a row and fourth time in the last five tournaments that the championship match featured two Stanford players.
Tuesday’s match between Yepifanova and Blake was high-level tennis, with no secrets between the two players. Both blasting from the baseline, it was sophomore, ranked No. 14 nationally, who pulled out the three-set victory, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
Another highlight of the tournament for Stanford was freshman Alexis Blokhina, who notched a ranked victory over No. 50 Jessica Alsola from California en route to a semifinal appearance, ultimately losing a tight three-setter to Blake. Pairing with Yepifanova, the duo was Stanford’s most successful doubles tandem, advancing to the semifinals.
Stanford has produced the tournament singles champion in 11 of the last 12 years: Alexandra Yepifanova (2022), Connie Ma (2021), Michaela Gordon (2019, 2018, 2017), Taylor Davidson (2015), Carol Zhao (2014), Kristie Ahn (2013, 2010), Krista Hardebeck (2012) and Nicole Gibbs (2011).
Yepifanova and Blake automatically advance to the ITA Fall National Championships in San Diego from Nov. 2-6.
