There was some shuffling in the lineup, as the Cardinal was without the services of Alexandra Yepifanova and Alexis Blokhina, who played at Nos. 3 and 4 singles at last weekend’s ITA Indoor National Championship in Seattle, Wash. Angelica Blake, who was at No. 1 last weekend, played on Friday in doubles, but not singles.
Katherine Hui and Valencia Xu won their doubles match at No. 2, 6-2, but Stanford fell on court Nos. 1 and 3 to face an early deficit.
But the Cardinal stormed back in singles to win going away. In the lineup at No. 4, freshman Eleana Yu was the first to finish, 6-1, 6-1. Xu won her match at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0, before India Houghton finished on five, 6-2, 6-1. Connie Ma secured the clincher at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory before the other courts finished out. Chidimma Okpara won on six, 6-3, 6-1 and Hui was victorious at No. 2, 7-5, 6-1.
Stanford returns to action next Friday, Feb. 23 when it hosts No. 6 Texas at 1:30 p.m.
