Stammel Leads Dores in Fall Rankings

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team placed four members in the ITA fall national rankings released Tuesday.

Junior Bridget Stammel led the charge for the Dores, climbing to No. 26 in singles. The ranking is the second highest of her career, just short of the No. 23 spot from February. Stammel captured a second consecutive Ohio Valley Regional singles championship this fall to earn an automatic qualifier into the NCAA Championships.

Sophomore Valeria Ray enters the national rankings for the first time this season, finishing the fall at No. 78. Ray qualified for the NCAA Championships after clinching multiple matches at the ITA Sectional Championships. The Commodore also notched wins at the ITA All-American Championships and at the regional, ultimately falling in the singles quarterfinal round.

In doubles, senior Célia-Belle Mohr and freshman Sophia Webster made the largest jump for Vanderbilt. The two climbed from No. 29 to No. 11 in the most recent doubles rankings. Mohr and Webster went on a tournament run at All-Americans and eventually qualified for a spot in Waco with multiple victories at the ITA Conference Masters Championships. The duo picked up an opening round win at the NCAA Championships before bowing out in the second.
