BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. – On the second day of the Bonita Bay Collegiate Open, the Purdue women’s tennis team got a hint of what lies ahead for them in the regular season.
The Boilermakers took on Memphis to continue play in the open. Redshirt senior Liz Norman and freshman Antonia Pareja both faced and conquered tie breaks in their singles matches. Norman won her match after dropping the first set then coming back to fight to win the next two. Pareja followed the same pattern.
Junior Rut Galindo also played and won a tough match. Her two sets both went up to seven points, but Galindo fought through to add a win to the team’s tally.
In doubles, Norman and sophomore Tara Katarina Milic teamed up for the first time to bring home a swift 6-1 victory.
Purdue will face Memphis again in its season opener on Jan. 15.
