Smith and Friend Ready for NCAA Championships

WACO, Texas – Arizona’s Colton Smith and Jay Friend are set to begin competition tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 19 at the NCAA Singles Championships hosted by Baylor.

Friend, seeded fifth, will kick off the week at Hurd Tennis Center in the round of 64 against Martin Katz of Miami at 2:00 p.m. MST.  Smith, seeded third, will play shortly afterward against Youssef Kadiri of Nevada at 4:00 p.m. MST.

The Wildcat standouts punched their tickets to NCAA’s at the ITA All-American Championships in September by making a run to the consolation final.

In May, Smith, in his second appearance at the annual NCAA Single’s competition, made a historic run to the semifinals- taking down four of the highest ranked players in the country. Friend, in his first career appearance, fell in the first round.

The championships will be streamed on ESPN+ with the Cracked Raquets’ CrossCourt Cast. Single courts can be viewed on Baylor’s PlaySight, and live stats will be available on SideArm.

There will be a round played each day, starting with R64 tomorrow and ending with the championship final on Sunday, Nov. 24.
