Singles Lifts No. 59 Women’s Tennis Over No. 65 Nebraska on Senior Day


UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Despite dropping the doubles point, the Penn State women’s tennis team (11-10) pulled out a 4-2 win over No. 65 Nebraska in Sarni Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.  

DOUBLES 

Nebraska earned the doubles point with wins on courts one and two.  

Finishing first, Ioana Gheorghita and Alina Lebedeva cruised to an easy 6-0 win over Lucy Loy and Anfisa Danilchenko.  

The Cornhuskers took court two in a 7-5 decision that saw Karly Friedland and Olivia Dorner fall to Ana Carmen Zamburek and Isabel Adrover Gallego, before they clinched the point when Sofiya Chekhlystova and Carla Girbau lost to Raphaelle Lacasse and Samantha Alicea, 6-3. 

SINGLES 

Gheorghita grabbed the equalizer and first singles point of the match for Penn State in a 6-4, 6-2 decision on No. 3. Girbau followed that up with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Alicea on court four.   

Dorner fell to Lacasse 7-5, 6-3 on No. 5, before Zuffova defeated Alicea in a 6-4, 6-4 decision on court two. The Nittany Lions clinched the match on No. 1 as Chekhylstova took down Gallego 7-6(3), 6-3.
