Columbia, Mo. — University of Missouri Tennis Head Coach Bianca Turati names Silvia Chinellato as the Tiger’s new Assistant Coach.
Chinellato joins the staff after spending the 2023-24 season as the Head Coach at Mount St. Mary for the men’s and women’s tennis programs.
“Silvia and I have known each other since we were kids. We are both from the same region in Italy,” said Turati. “She has done an incredible job leading both the men’s and women’s programs at Mount St. Mary. She has all the qualities and skills, as a person and a coach, that our program needs to make progress and take Mizzou tennis to the next level. Silvia is energetic and hungry to win, as well as empathetic and relatable. I have no doubt she will have an immediate impact on the team. Silvia also had an outstanding career at South Carolina. With her in the lineup, the team was consistently in the top 10-15 in the nation. She knows the SEC and what it takes to win. I am thrilled to start working with her soon.”
The Mountaineer men’s tennis team ended last season with an 8-14 record, while the women closed out the year 3-11 under Chinellato. Beginning her career at Mount St. Mary’s as an assistant coach, Chinellato led the women’s team to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) playoff spot during her first season at the Mount. Chinellato also coached the MAAC’s Player and Rookie of the Year, Victoria Papadopoulou, during the 2022-2023 season.
“I am looking forward to joining Bianca and the team in the next few weeks,” said Chinellato. I am very excited to be back in the SEC, but this time as an assistant coach. It will be a fantastic opportunity and experience, and I am honored to be part of the Mizzou family. Go Tigers!”
Chinellato spent her five-year college career at the University of South Carolina, where she collected a 70-40 record in doubles with a 72-50 mark for her singles career. During her junior year, Chinellato earned an SEC Player of the Week acknowledgment following a 4-0 week against Clemson and #20 Texas Tech.
The Gamecocks alumna built a 24-16 singles record (11-7 in the SEC) at the No. 4 slot, where she spent most of her career. Chinellato was mainly paired at the No. 2 and helped achieve a 20-11 record at that slot, with half of those being SEC wins.
