Shields Signs Another Top Recruit

TUCSON, Ariz. – Men’s Tennis welcomes Iñaki Cabrera Bello as their newest signee. Coming from Barcelona, Spain, Cabrera Bello will compete with the Wildcats on the courts this spring. He ranks No. 95 in ITF juniors, No. 1179 in ATP World Tour ranks and holds a UTR of 12.66.

“I am so happy to announce the signing of Iñaki Cabrera Bello to our Wildcat family! He is the total package, a great player, a driven student, and a natural born leader. It was very clear to me once I met Iñaki that he has the “It factor” that we look for as coaches,” head coach Clancy Shields said. “He is going to have an incredible tennis career, and I’m grateful that we will get to play a part in his development over these next few years!”

Cabrera Bello’s signing adds to Shields’ impressive recruiting track record. Arizona had the 11th ranked recruiting class for fall 2023 with Jay Friend, Eric Padgham and Dominique Rolland. In 2020, Shields signed Blue Chip recruit Colton Smith who was ranked No. 7 in the nation at the time and is still the highest-ranked American signee in program history.

Three years ago Gustaf Strom and Herman Hoeyeraal signed with Arizona. Strom was the No. 1 junior player in Sweden at the time of his signing and Hoeyeraal shared the same No. 1 prospect spot in Norway. With an ITF high ranking of 35, Strom is the highest ranked recruit the program has ever signed. Before Strom, Shields signed Sweden native Jonas Ziverts in 2018, another top-50 prospect with an ITF junior ranking of 47.

The 2022-23 team is sure to make history again with its accomplished and skilled set of student athletes. Cabrera Bello will only amplify this already impressive squad and surely play a large part in its upcoming spring success.
