SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Kianah Motosono and Ellie Schoppe earned three victories each, and the Florida State women’s tennis team earned 12 victories on the first day of the San Juan Women’s Tennis Invitational. Both Motosono and Schoppe earned one win in singles and two in doubles, in leading six different Seminoles to wins on the first day of the championship.
Motosono earned her singles victory over Anastasia Astakhova of Auburn (6-4, 6-4) in the morning singles matches. She then team with senior Vic Allen and gained a doubles victory over Holly Staff and Bridget Stammel of Vanderbilt (6-3) and was paired with Schoppe to gain a doubles victory over Dasha Kourkina and Anessa Lee of Vanderbilt (6-1). Schoppe gained her singles victory over Bayley Sheinin of Michigan (7-5, 6-4). Her doubles wins came with Alice Amendola over Kourkina and Amy Stevens of Vanderbilt (6-4) and with Motosono to defeat Kourkina and Lee (6-1).
The Seminoles are back in action for Day 2 of the San Juan Invitational on Saturday.
