TULSA, OKLA.—Graduate student Ryan Seggerman won his opening match in the singles main draw before teaming with fellow graduate Brian Cernoch to win their Round of 32 doubles match on Wednesday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championship.
After advancing to the main draw through the qualifying draw, Seggerman won his opening singles match on Wednesday afternoon, beating Baylor’s Jake Finn Bass in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. He moves on to a Thursday singles Round of 32 match against Virginia’s Jeffrey von der Schulenburg, who beat Mississippi’s Nikola Slavic in straight sets on Wednesday.
Seggerman and Cernoch teamed up to win a thriller of a Round of 32 doubles match, beating the 14th-ranked team of Bass and Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi of Baylor 7-6 (4), 2-6, 1-0 (7). The UNC pair will face Herman Hoeyeraal and Jonas Eriksson Ziverts of Arizona in the Round of 16 on Thursday.
Cernoch lost his Wednesday singles match to Texas’ Siem Woldeab, 3-6, 6-4, 1-6.
