CLEMSON, S.C. – Junior Ryuhei Azuma was named to the All-ACC Third Team by the conference office Monday afternoon. This is the first time Azuma has earned conference honors in his career with the Tigers.
Azuma enjoyed a breakout season for the Tigers, solely playing on Court 1 in singles play. He was awarded ACC Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career after registering two ranked wins against South Alabama’s No. 123 Collard and Nebraska’s No. 75 Hietaranta earlier this season. During the stretch he also continued playing excellent in doubles play, beating Nebraska’s line 1 pair of Wiedenhorn and Maruyama.
At the conclusion of dual match play, Azuma recorded a career-high five ranked wins. In addition to victories over Nebraska and South Alabama, Azuma also downed North Carolina’s No. 47 Cernoch, Louisville’s No. 72 Natan Rodrigues and Virginia Tech’s No. 44 Fishback.
Azuma reached his highest ITA singles ranking on April 18, clocking in at No. 93.
